Perhaps the negative connotations that the phrase “Mail Order Brides” conveys is a perversion of it’s original meaning that came about in the American 1800s.  Many of the early settlers of the West were men.  At that time there was a huge woman shortage so they wrote to the four corners of the world in hopes of enticing a bride.  It started as a very pragmatic thing to do, uniquely America.

Now, there is no shortage of American women.  We have relative parity among the sexes.  As such the term “Mail Order Brides” takes on the meaning that we hear and know today… loser, socially inept, cheap woman and worse.  These words are whispered under the breathe of those that think of themselves as winners, social adept, and prizes or better.

It is surprising that such successful people would utter these words with such distain.  The words are just a conveyance for them to spew the fermenting acid of sour grapes from their mouth.  Why are they so spiteful to those that they can care less about?  The reasons are numerous.

There is a pecking order in life and happiness.  There are those that believe that to be on top, they must stand on the heads of others.  Now, what happens when the lowly loser is just as happily married to a bride that rivals the vast majority of American women today?   These winners have a mental meltdown.  All their paradigms are thrown for a loop and they are unable to cope with the ensuing thoughts of “how could this happen?!”  It is far easier for them to react to their base instincts and growl of the knots that distresses them so.

Foreign brides represent increased competition for American women in many respects.  Few foreign brides have weight issues.  Many foreign brides put the husband and family first.  Most foreign brides have traditional values.  Many young foreign brides want a husband that is mature.  Most foreign brides look at the content of a husband’s character as opposed to the content of his bank account.  With such brides in America, it brings pause and thought to those male winners.  They start to think, “Why can’t my wife be like that?”  Next thing you here is how that great winner couple got divorced and the guy married a Russian model have his age (sounds like a story of Donald Trump).  Well, if it’s good enough for the Donald, it certainly is good enough for every man.

Birds of a feather flock together.  We are all nationalistic by nature.  We belong to the American tribe of sorts.  To go and marry into another tribe is… well that just isn’t done.  It is just the same as in the days of yore that people didn’t marry to others in the next town.  It was considered against the values of the town or group.  Well, the winners have a way of marginalizing the losers… to make them feel like they are not a part of the group.

If the so call losers are made not to enjoy the benefits of the group, they are open to look elsewhere.  Though there is parity in the sexes, numbers wise, there is not in the matching of men to women.  We have the top 80% of men chasing the top 20% of the women and the top 80% of the women chasing the top 20% of the men.  The numbers don’t add up and when the music stops there is going to be a lot more than one chair short.  Those that can see the handwriting on the wall know who will be short changed.

It is fortunate that many that pursue foreign brides are international travelers with high degrees of learning.  It is they who can reap the rewards of a successful marriage to a foreign bride.  They have the patience, will, and fortitude to see it through the language barrier and social stigmas that most would fear to ford.   Perhaps this is why the “winners” are so adversed and distraught at the mere sight of a young foreign bride.  It is something that they cannot do but wish they could and yet in their heart are so jealous they must choke on those sour fruits so far from their reach.  Their only recourse is to eject the thought with a guttural tone, “Mail Order Bride!”
