A Rabbits Tale:
Seems there was this young Texas lad, having watched his buddies make it big in the Savings & Loan and real estate businesses decided he too, could strike it rich if only he had a way...
Well one day after reading a magazine article about the fascination a small group of American Men (AM) had with acquiring a certain breed of white rabbit (WR) it suddenly struck him that this could be his opportunity. Hell, these stupid AM would fly all over the world and spend countless dollars trying to find the perfect WR... somehow, there would just have to be $$$ in this he thought.
Cleverly, he calculated that by using the Internet to bring these guys together, this might just be the makin’s of a good business venture.
So he lurked a bit on the few I-net boards there were where AM discussed WR, and then invited the more eloquent or outspoken ones to join his new forum as moderators, knowing that their personalities would drive traffic to the board - just like a popular radio DJ.
Only problem was he didn’t have much of an interest in WR himself, nor was he crazy enough to spend the ridiculous money these foolish AM did. But that turned out not to be unsurmountable as these moderators had the experience and ability to pretty much run the board without him. Plus, he could simply lurk on his own board and learn the lingo.
The board turned out to be a big hit, so then he decided to execute the business portion of his plan and began to solicit advertisers. Yeah the mods didn’t like it, but he simply placated them by reminding that it cost money to run a board - that, plus a comment or two about how they had achieve a degree of notoriety by being on HIS board kept them in check.
Interesting, that our Texas boy bypassed the business of helpin these guys find their WRs, but instead he used to just tell them it was a “dirty” business: rabbits never smelled that good to him and seemed like all they did was eat and poop and wind up costing the guys a lot of money.
Although, he eventually got himself a domestic rabbit - but unfortunately escaped a little later.
Our Texas boy was justifiably proud of his WRGuide and it became the largest on the I-net. He used to gloat to his drinking buddies as to how little time he needed to spend on the WRGuide since HIS mods did all the hard work - unpaid ones at that.... go figure!
Like any good TX entrepreneur he combined the membership stats from all his collective businesses so the number would be especially appealing to advertisers and future buyers. Heck, he even started a BR (brown rabbit) forum, but it never got much attention, so he gave up on even thinking about pursuing the black rabbit trade.
Well after awhile he started to get fed up with all the minor annoyances running a successful WRGuide brought: advertisers would fight, Agencies (the guys helping the bunny-finders) would fight, even the members would fight over whose rabbit was the nicest or the best way to find one.
So he decided to execute the final step of HIS business venture and sell it. Only problem: he speculated the moderators wouldn’t like it and might even want some say [or worse yet: a cut!!] in exactly whom he sold it to. But, no problemo: he decided to leave them out of the loop!
When he located a guy who knew all about WR, he sold the business and hopped down the trail, cash in hand...
Yes, he said to himself: “don’t you just love it when it all goes according to plan!”

Senna,
Well said!
Well, what can I say. Who really knows all the facts. Perhaps in time the truth will come out. As for now this is good as any other rendition.

Yeah, I am mostly just making fun because I don't believe anyone has posted the "insider" version.
Like others have already said, it's probably best to let the past RIP, but I couldn't resist.
Anyway, good luck on your new venture!
