Visiting Russian Women in These Times…
Often, when the American economy slumps, there tends to be less activity of AM visiting RW. This stands to reason. The RW venture is can become a high cost one. Still, those that have a will, will find a way. “Be still my heart,” is not the motto of AM or men in general. So take heart that the cost barrier is not as high as it may appear. There is a silver lining to our clouded economy.
Sure, the cost of plane fair is much higher than before. Sky high gas prices have caused this. The travel fair is a big chunk of the RW visiting dollars. However, this may soon change. As our slump becomes the world’s fall, oil prices will plummet and will eventually be reflected in the reduction of fare prices.
However that is not the big new. Russian economic strength was propped up largely by their vast natural resources (oil). The current free fall in oil prices has weakened their currency exchange rate to the US dollar. In the past 3 months, the rouble has declined in value by about 20% in respect to the dollar.
What does this mean to you? That means the dollar with have ~20% more buying power in Russian. In other words an AM can spend ~20% less in Russia.
Also, if you are considering engaging an agency in your search, you may consider negotiating a reduced fee for all Russian based services. I seriously doubt many (if any) Russian agency will reduce their fee schedule if the exchange rate changes to their favor.
If you were on the fence because of cost, it may not be as high as you might expect.
