Gentlemen the drinks are on me, in celebration of a very important phone call. Just got off the line with Luba and her best friends Steve(AM) and Tatyana(RW) married and living in Cheboksary. It was more than a positive conversation. Luba is very excited and we will be well supported by Steve and Tatyana. They have been married for 3yrs.  Steve started is odyessy in 99 and is well versed in the needs for travel and life in the FSU. I am a blessed man!!! Tha plans for a long visit, maybe by April, are progressing well.   Drink up Gentlemen the day is young and the night is long.   JP

JPjr,

Forgive me for not knowing your situation.  I'm guessing that you are in the works of visiting a RW in April.  I'm guessing that you have had an 'all green lights' convo and are excited at the prospects of the coming visit.  Is this about right?

I'll give you a pat on ther back and take a shot of vodka with a lime twist, please.

Ronin

That is exactly right. Ronin most of my learning the ropes posts have been on RWG where I met Scott  and he directed me here for a little less BS and and lot more info. I will have to say that, I have seen a bit of boiesterous bravado there,  but, more than a few have been quite helpful and friendly. Some I have seen here as well. I brought My celebration here, because I was loggedin when I made the call. I found another site today called RWD, but not the primer part. The site is all in green and many of the threads and posts  are the same as I have read here and at RWG. Almost a makeup of both sites. I have been reading at antidate also and have good relations with Hellen, also at Lilla Villa. Ronin I have read some about the RWG sell to European Connections. Pros and cons. Both positive and negative about you and the unamed rivals. RWG is on the decline, no RWD is , no the opposites are on the rise and Antidate is the new place to be. In 2 weeks I have read it all. I tell you I like all the sites and ignore the less then learned masses wherever I go. I said it there and I will say it here , it is good to find these support sites when I had no idea of there existence. I was about to wing it, when I found RWG and Scott chimed right in to help a newb. Four sites is  a bit much to keep up with as well as all the info sites as to paperwork, visa and K1s 2s and 3s. Imagrations Pettions to get permission  to get more paper work. I am going to take it one step at a time and not think to far ahead, cause my head hurts, so lets have a double Vodka and lime, on me.   JPjr

JPjr,

Yep... I must say that in many sites. they all have a flavor.  RWG appears to be going thru an identity crisis.  It's being moderated by everyone and their dogs.  the "D" kingdom is going thru growing pains.  The king can't control his subjects so he is putting the thumbscrews to their freedoms.   Antidate... I don't follow that site.  I'm sure there are others.

You're right, I'm attempting to pull together a site where a new person will have everything he needs without having to dig through 1000s of old dead posts.  As the name implies, this site is focused on those that are starting out.  I think many forums have lost sight of the needs of those that are testing the waters for the first time in this endeavor.

The way I lookat it, less is more for the newbie.

Goodmorning Ronin, you are up late and or up early:D. Honestly though I have not been in  any of the forums,  long enough, to be at odds with anyone. When I see some one become beligerent, I ignore, though I won't use the Ignore button. I do like the ease of selection here for the experienced opinion. Thanks   JPjr

Another round.  Update--- I await my T- Visa for the month of May. Have airfare and will travel to Moscow on the 4th, where Luba will met me, for a few days vacation for her. And then on to Cheboksary by train. Luba has 3wks of vacation coming so we will be able to spend most of the time, I am there, together. I feel real positive about this relationship and am as happy as a pig in the poop to be going to Russia. Here is to those that have gone before.  SKOAL, is that a Russian toast?    JP:dude:

JPjr,

SKOAL is a Nordic toast.  Russians has no standard toasts, however the shortest toast is perhaps "ZA VAS" which is the same as "to you."  These links might be of some use to you on your first visit.   Cheers!

arrg!  Don't tell me I bought the wrong one! :X  I wanted one that spoke Russian, but couldn't seem to find one.  Does yours speak Russian?  What model is it?  I got lost in the massive numbers of models, so may have actually stepped on the right one.  Oh, well. . . .   :?

Holy Mother Russia, the time of departure is at hand, I pack and do a checklist as we type. Any last minute ideas, while we drink and pack will be apprciated. I will be up most of the night, hoping to sleep through most of the flight tomorrow night. I have posted to friends at Antidate and here, some know at RWD and RWG, but have not made to much of it, because too many negative types run their heads. Drink up the night is young.  Za Vaus

Congratulations! and Best of Luck to you.  You won't get any sleep on the plane, at least not at first, then exhaustion will set in, and you will doze off.  Try power napping if you can.  Once you get close to Russia, the excitement takes over and you won't be able to sleep.

Your first night, you will sleep like a baby . . .

My plane was late arriving Houston from Paris, snow storms in Europe.  Overcast all across the Atlantic, across France, across into Russia.  My first glimpse of Russian soil, and yes, there was some ground visible in the breaks in the clouds.

You are going to thoroughly enjoy yourself!!  I'm envious, I don't go back until July . . .

ok, I can't figure out yet what the picture specs, should  be, I'll post it later . . .

JPjr,

You're going at what should be the best time of the year.  Perhaps a few rains, perhaps not.  May is a very moody month for weather so be prepared.

Enjoy the moments that you are there.  Take some chances and be a little forward so you can sweep her of her feet.

Best of luck and bring back good news.

Ronin

Ladies and Gentlemen of this fair forum, I present  Lubov Arkadyevna Leonteva. We bonded quickly and when Luba's father invited me out of the hotel to live in their flat, we desided to declare our intentions and I asked Arkady for his blessings and he did so. We married May 19 also Luba's sister's wedding aniversity. What a party ensued !!! I am still in scatter brain mode with wish I were home in my flat with my wife. Stuck in Memphis with the Russian Blues Again.:D

JPjr,

Congrats!!!

The good part... she is a gorgeous (RW, duh).

The bad part... the waiting begins.  I'd imagine that you will be making plans for another visit within a month or so.

When you have the time, can you spare some details of your trip?

I will be moving this thread to the "First Steps" forum.

Please start a new thread in the "First Trip"  forum.  If you want to write something more comprehensive like a trip report (very little comments from the peanut gallery) the do so in the "Travel Log" forum.

Ronin

Oh Yeah!!!  Have we got another reason to hoist a toast: (break out more vodka, please my dear!) We received our NOA2, my Petition is approved, 31 August 2006, now we wait on the Embassy in Moscow!

Man Oh Man!  The to-do lists!  We don't even have an interview date scheduled yet, and the lists of things we both need to do in preparation for her arrival are growing by the day!!!

And another round of drinks! :dude:

After two and half months staying with me in England, Irina went back to St Petersburg on 30th August, lodged her Fiancee Visa application the very next day and was told she would have to go to the UK Consulate on the following Tuesday.

We were both expecting all sorts of questioning and requests for extra documentation, but no; all she had to do was show some photos of us together in Kiev and various places in England and Voila! - passport and six month visa.

From other people I've spoken to about obtaining residency visas from various UK embassies/consulates around the world, four working days seems to be a bit of a record. :D

Must express my thanks to Anna and Michael in Scotland who gave us invaluable advice about accompanying documentation without which I'm sure things would not have gone so smoothly.

<GREEN w/ ENVY:D  coming back at the end of 3 weeks was kill'n me!!  I could easily spend 3, 4 or more months over there.  Currently the only thing keeping me from working over there is the language :X

Our NOA1 date was 23 May 2006.  100 days.  We had a running joke that illustrates some of the RW mentality of speaking of the worst and hoping for the best: Natalia would always remind me that we would get approval on day 119.  As she puts it,  "approve on 119 day. They must provide answer less than 120 days!"  Ya just gotta love it!

Thanks Guys,

This girl doesn't hang about! She Skyped me tonight to say that she has booked a flight back to London on Saturday!

I was anticipating a couple of weeks to take things easy and tidy up some loose ends that got left over the Summer, but now I've only got two evenings to get everything straight again!

Best wishes for your own visa applications.

Trevor,

You have it so easy compared to us Yanks.  She must think that you are something really great.   Perhaps the way to go is for AM to work in the UK then go RW hunting!
