Guest. Members, et al, As many of you will noticed, the ads for Russian Brides appear too good to be true. Model figures and faces suggesting that they would love to be your wife and lifetime mate. Young professional women (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc.) posing in skimpy skirts, see-through blouses and high heels. It seems to be some sort of crazy dream. But it is not... sort of. Russian women (RW) are like many other women in their goals in life, however their methods to get there are significantly different than what we Amerian men (AM) invision. Some will say that they are wired differently and that is a very accuracy assessment. IMO, they're similar, in many respects to the American women of the '20... an era way before the modern movement of feminization. A time where gender roles were well understood. Ronin' In my short experience in this area with my trip to Odessa I will have to agree with you 100%. The real trick comes when youare telling some of your buddies about you visit and an AW over hears and wants to know what's so great about RW "they don't even speak English" need i explain further??

RW are attracted to strong male figures. In general, this is fortunate since AM (with their frontier loner grit spitting image or the 'we can do anything" attitude) are seen as strong images to RW. However the proof is in the putting. Still, there are some other factors to consider before putting your best foot forward. If I may speak in bold generalities, there are two distinct RW types that are attracted to different things. There is the Soviet Era RW. She is ~30 years old and older. They have grown in their formative years under strict communism. For them, a man that exudes strength is essential. Not just for them to admire and feel protected, but to be able to handle such a strong RW such as she. This RW can be as tough as nails, but under that depleted uranium armor plated shield is a tender woman that will be committed to you and the family for life. The second RW type is the Post Soviet Era RW. Her upbringing is a mix of communism and western ideas. Here, you will find a range of personalities that vary from the Soviet Era RW to mid-way to the contemporary AW. To this lady, the good things in life tend to have more weight. Now if you are traveling the roads less travel in Russia, you can bring down the ~ age of the Soviet Era RW by a few years, (YMWV). Or, you can choose to go to the metropolitan centers to find an older Post Soviet Era RW, (YMWV). So choose wisely what disposition of RW you desire and be sure that you can fill their expectations as a man, husband, lover, provider and protector. Ron, You have touched a nerve with your last post. The point you didn't get quite right is that even the younger women are still greatly, largely, hugely, mostly, whatever adverb you like, affected by Soviet era thinking because of her parents being of that period, the western influence on the young Russian is pure crass commercial consumerism, not ideology. Scratch a Russian of any age and underneath you will still find a lot of communism, it will be several generations yet before the mark of Stalin is not so omni-present on the overall Russian mentality. The good news is that even the older RWs, at least the one's of education, understood that communism was manipulation of the masses and are very eager for more honesty from the idealogues running the government. However, I fear that Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin have left an indelible stain on Russia. I will agree that RWs are attracted to strong male figures to the extent that the male's first priority imust be to his family. If you want to make the right first impression on a RW, you must stress your interest in creating a strong family. There is a saying in Russia that a good man only needs to be slightly better looking than a monkey. Thus, the mother is imparting wisdom to the daughter about those qualities in a man which will promote an enduring marriage. And Russian girls listen closely to their mothers. She isn't nesessarily looking for a John Wayne or a Steven Segal protection figure, but she definately wants a father figure for her children who can be counted on to be there through thick and thin. IMHO, if you think more like a Ward Cleaver, then you have a good grip on what the honest woman in Russia has in mind when she conjures up her potential future marriage partner. In as much as so many of the women in the FSU who are considering marriage to a western man already have a child, and have been abandoned by the child's father to a large extent, it's not hard to see where the woman's real interests are when it comes to selecting a second future partner. Of course, everything is opinion and subject to speculation.

Bunker, You are correct. Many core values are still ingrained in the 30 yr and younger crowd. Still, the downing of the wall represents a milestone in their society that ripples down to the fabric of daily life. By the time that they (RW) are on their own, their parents can’t protect them from the new world they will face. As good RW, they will adapt and slowly transform. Yet, in essences they will be a reflection of the Soviet parents. However, from the AM OWW point of view, this essences may not be apparent and thus may require deeper investigation to reveal what her values really are. For the Soviet Era RW, it’s more WYSIWYG. Yes, the monkey saying fits nicely with the other topic of “Why do RW want to marry Foreign Men.” It’s pearls of wisdom in a male short society. That would open up a completely seperate area of debate since most Russians have little regard or trust for anybody or anything German. Even during that period when East Germany fell under the Soviet bloc control, Germans were viewed with great suspicion and distrust, thus the need to keep them under an iron thumb. This lack of trust was validated in the Russian's mind when, at first opportunity, the East Germans ran to the west to rejoin their long lost, and more prospering, west German brothers. Most Russians view such acts as treachery and betrayal. This might also explain the current Russian attitude about Ukraine.
