What do you say when a RW asks you for your opinion about some aspect of her appearance?

In this case, a young RW asked me once about her eye makeup (Though she has supermodel good looks, her makeup made her look like a raccoon after a car crash.) and once about a new hair cut.  I did not like the hair cut either.

I understand that Russians prefer direct, even blunt talk.  Does this extend to RW when they ask you about their appearance?

I was diplomatic in both cases, telling her that she was beautiful, that her beauty transcended mere makeup.  To the hair cut, I was more evasive and praised the quality of the cut.

PhillipinTexas,

Welcome to the RussianWomanPrimer!

Your replies to the RW were quite correct.  It all depends on how one views the future with any given RW.  For instance, a man may believe that the makeup is just some rough on the diamond.  If so, then a diplomatic answer is called for.  On the other hand, if the woman beneath is not ones cup of tea, perhaps the honest truth is in order.

I too have dated would be models… by accident.  It was great fun, however I knew that they were a waste of my time.  They would all last one date with me.

Many young RW aspire to be models or the like.  Never have I seen a group of women that have these desires that can well be such.  Young RW often follow closely the newest European trends in fashion.  Some styles are hot and some are not. Some young RW haven’t come to the understanding that models, like actresses in a play, overdo the makeup for the catwalk and that it loses its effect when close-up and personal.  Other young RW haven’t yet figured out that makeup is to accentuate one’s beauty, not make one beautiful.  It’s all a phase.  We are talking about young RW aren’t we?
