RW and superstitions…

In general, RW are significantly more superstitious than the local varieties of women.  The more educated the RW, the less they are affected by this cultural difference.  Older RW tend to be more superstitious. Regardless, this is an important factor (more or less) in it tends to affect the choices and decisions that RW make.  Consequently, this factor needs to be mentioned in that it may impact ones relationship.

It first starts out with the Zodiac signs that one sees on most profiles.  This should be a clue as to how important signs are as far as marriage compatibility goes.

If your sign is one of the 3 most compatible, then that is a plus for your relationship from the get go.  Everything that goes well in the relationship can be attributed to this compatibility.  Bonding and feels of closeness occur sooner since the RW may believe that it is destiny by the stars.  Any bumps in the road will just be that.

If your sign is one of the 3 most not compatible, then the RW may give up earlier on the relationship when things go wrong or problem creep in.  Problems will be linked with this non-compatibility.  Any bumps along the road will be magnified and seen as destinies way of ending a relationship that was not meant to be.

Of the other six signs not mentioned, it’s a toss up but it is rather on the neutral side where the signs have little or no weight.

End result is that if you want to improve your odds in this regard, all things being equal, then choose a RW that has a compatible sign.  If things work out otherwise, then lean toward younger and/or more educated RW.  If you are not sure, there is no reason not to ask the RW as to how important compatible signs are to her.

If the RW goes ahead with a relationship knowing that the signs are not compatible and she gives serious credence to such signs, then, at least for the time being, she has accepted that she will have to work harder in this relationship or will expect more from you or both.  YMMV.

Here is a list of some of the superstitions that you may want to know:

-         Sit on your luggage for a minute before going on trip (I've been told that this is more common sense than superstition).

-         When a beverage bottle is emptied, don’t place it back on the table.

-         Never place a hat on a table or bed.

-         Dropping a fork means that a man will visit soon.

-         Dropping a spoon means that a woman will visit soon.

-         Never whistle indoors.

-         If you hand itches, you will come into unexpected money.

-         Never point or gesture to your body when describing illness.

-         Never offer to shake hands, embrace, kiss or do any business across a door’s threshold.

-     Never cross the path of a black cat (except if it is your cat).

-     If you leave your home and have to return to retrieve something you have forgotten. it is a bad omen.  However, there is a fix for this.  You must look at yourself in the mirror before you leave.  You will notice that all Russian homes have mirrors near the entrance... or in this case, the exit.

Yes Ronin my RW is superstitious and I have had to learn from her and her Russian friends here in Canada a whole new set of Do's and Dont's.  My wife is in her mid-forties with several professional degrees and lots of senior business experience; however, she was shocked to learn about my lack of knowledge of the basic rules of life regarding superstitions.

I love to whistle, grew up where it meant you were happy and it realxed me immensely! Now no whistling in the house - but I still have the garage workshop, yard and car for my pleasure.  I asked several times WHY whistling was bad - never got an answer - just don't do it!!!

The bottle on the table has also been extended to the counter in our house. We recycle the bottles, so during a party I will rinse out a wine or liquor bottle and place it on the counter to be moved to the recycle bin later! I had one of our Russian guest get up and move it for me - he insisted it was very bad luck to leave it on the table or counter - again I received no plausible explanation of what the infraction was.

In summary the small superstitious issues that I have been learning about all seem to be handed down from grandmothers to daughters to .... and they carry a lot of weight! My wife is a professional woman in her mid-forties, her daughter is a gorgeous young tall blond professional Russian woman working in Russia - but when things go wrong in life, they always seem to have some old superstition to explain WHY life went astray. Then the young ladies remember WHAT their grandmothers told them and these unexplained superstitions gets reborn again for the next generation.

It must seem to my wife that asking WHY you can't whistle in the house is a silly question and she looks at me with that same shocked look that I gave her when she asked why we don't park on the sidewalk if we can't find any other place to park! :)

I'd really like to know what this one is all about.

Leaving an empty bottle on the table is treated as though it will invite some sort of serious divine retribution, like a thunderbolt hitting the house. The offending bottle is immediately removed.

Apparently it is so serious, that if you are invited to dinner at a friends house and the host leaves the bottle on the table, the RW wil not stand on ceremony but will immediately remove it to the hosts' kitchen.

Well, I can't say where the origins are.  All I can say is it is a very old superstition.  I will look into it and see if I can give you something more on this.
