How Should Russian Wives Dress…?
There is no doubt that this subject and description leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Using the word "should" has control connotations. Were there exists rules of behavior; we are most likely talking about a society. Most all societies have norms; however, in our state of social transition it seems that we are lead to believe that anything is acceptable.
I would hazard to guess that many in this forum have gone or will go to the FSU because of the degradation of the family, gender roles and/or lack of suitable local women due to the social transition we are currently experiencing. Perhaps some or all are in part chasing a dream of that idea of a perfect wife (to whatever perfect means).
Regardless of the motivations, those that do go to Russia in search of a wife knows full well how they dress. It is perhaps what caught our eyes in the first place. Yet, I see it time and time again that once the RW is married to a WM, he will start to change her into conformance to the local norms. Perhaps not intentionally, but change nevertheless. And in so doing undermines that which he had sought for in the first place.
I’ve seen AM impress, more or less, dress codes on their RWives. Most of these husbands come from deeply religious backgrounds. So these RW cover everything up. Since nothing shows they start to lose respect for themselves. After a short time they morph into that can be called a typical AW. So why do these men go to Russia to find a bride in the first place? Who knows.
The words "sexy" and "conservative" are also up for grabs in the interpretation arena. For my wife, she says that she dresses conservatively. This means that she will not wear micro-minis. Pretty much everything else goes. My description for her attire is not "conservative." Perhaps alluring is more the word. Do I want to change this? Of course not.
This is one of the endearing qualities that I cherish. Dress is in part what separates our gender roles and defines what and who we think we are.
All WM want their RW to be functional in the new culture we have brought them into. This is an ever ongoing process. If the process is too slow, it is very likely that she will be unhappy. If the process is too fast, it is very likely that you will be unhappy. Striking a middle ground where one gives into the preferred style of dress of a Russian wife is not a difficult concession. Perhaps even a no brainer.
RW 'should' be allowed to dress in a manner that befits them. If we try to impress on them what they should wear, they will turn into something other than what we had envisioned.

How do RW like to dress in public? I can only speak from my experience with my RW, who has lived here for 4 years. The first weekend in Canada we were heading to Home Depot to buy some flowers to plant in the baskets. It took forever for her to get ready (more on the preperation time later) and when she was ready to go I had to smile!
She was wearing a short white cotton dress that hightlighted her 176cm tall blond size 4 figure perfectly. Did I mention that you could see her sexy bra and thong underware through the dress and to top it off wear she was wearing some white high heels! Well did we ever get some looks at HD!!  Oh yes, the make up was flawless! She commented that this was her old house dress that she wore to do chores around the house in Russia. Ya sure!
It was no surprise to me that every man and almost every woman had rubber neck that day when my wife walked past. I know now that she was shocked by the attention - but it is an interesting phenomenon that Russian women enjoy to be noticed - especially by the men - the attention means they are beautiful. My wife was overwhelmed with the attention she attracted in her first public shopping spree and she kept asking me "why is everyone staring at me?" Well let's see there are no other tall gorgoeus blondes in see through dresses wearing heels buying flowers that I noticed.
My wife was shocked that the other Canadian women allowed themselves to go out in public looking like bag ladies. You know the attire - sweat pants, cutoffs and T-shits is what all the other women were wearing! I personally think a woman can look very sexy in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt just as easily as a see through white dress. But the hair and make-up is were a RW will never comprimise - they must be perfect before going out in public!
It has taken 4 years for my wife to now feel comfortable wearing jeans and a T-shirt with her hair pulled back in a ponytail! She still turns heads wearing the casul North American clothes - in fact put her in a jean skirt and tank top and she can get your blood racing instantly.
So what is it that makes many RW so unique comapred to AW? I believe it is the ability to be a chameleon like creature that can change their looks from stunning to just everyday gorgoeus and sexy with the way they change their fashion style. RW seem to have this innate sense on what looks sexy and how to tie the whole package together including make-up and accesories to provide maximum eye appeal to the opposite sex! There are beautiful women everywhere in the world, including North America; however, there is a decreased percentage of AW who know how to put the whole package together for maximum effect.
RW enjoy the attention they get from men when they look HOT!! If you haven't had a chance to get out for supper to a nice restaurant with your RW for awhile, she will enjoy the opportunity to get dressed up for supper. The funny thing is they will enjoy to get dressed up in the full meal deal - evening dress, hair, make-up and look like they are ready for the presidential gala. They are accustomed back in Russia getting dolled up to go to parties - it is enjoyable for them to strut their stuff. A RW would be embarrassed to be seen in public not looking her best - it is a bad reflection on her and it would embarass her husband and his image in society.
So gentlemen be preapred to wait for your lovely RW to get ready when she first arrives even if you are only going down to the store to buy a quart of milk. I learned that patience is a virtue when being married to a RW. My wife has gotten much better now, she can be ready to go out in 5 minutes versus 60 minutes. I must be honest, she and I both enjoy when she decides to get really dressed up when we are going out to a fancy supper or anniversary celebration - because she looks stunning and I feel so privileged to have her beside me.
Not all RW look like models - but all RW have the ability to make the best of their natural attributes so they can look very sexy and alluring when they want to be. I take for granted that my RW is gorgeous - but she never lets me forget that she loves looking good for me in public.

I've just joined this site. Very informative thank you.
I just want to say in response to this thread that I'd prefer my RW to continue dressing the way she does back home. One of the things I don't like about the WW is that they are so used to dressing like men and acting like them. One of the things that attracts me to RW is how feminine they are. I'd hate the idea of her having to start hanging about in Jeans and Sweatshirts to fit in with the women here.
Is there a way of keeping her the way she is regardless of the stares she gets?

First off, welcome to the RWPrimer!
The key to how RW dress in their new country lies mostly on the husbands' attitude. For instances, in the States, typical RW apparel tends to be at least over-dressed if not down right too revealing by American standards. The conflict in the husband is what to follow... having her stay the same or have her adapt to the society she is exposed to? It is inevitable that she will eventually adopt the 'jeans and T-shirt' style... in 2, 5, 10 or 20 years. It is up to the husband to influence how quickly or how long the process will take.
Look at it this way, if a WM expects a RWife to go to work from day one, the influences in her daily life will be not be just the husbands. Co-workers and working dress codes will affect her choice of dress. Unless she is working in a strip joint or a gentleman's club, then it is a fair bet that her dressing style will become more conservative. The ultimate decision for the RWife to work or not is that of the husband.
Another instance how a husband is affected is by religion. On one hand, a husband may like the RWife's racy dress, however it maybe at odds with the man's religious morays. As you know many religions adhere to modesty in dress. If the RWife is also compelled by the husband to join his church then it is also the consensus of the church members that will influence and reinforce a conservative dress.
So what can a man do? Direct influence registers more than indirect means. In a healthy Russian marriage the husband decides on nearly every major purchase. In most cases, what she drapes on herself is in that category. Also, RW in general want to remain appealing to a good husband. Because of these reasons it would be to the husband's advantage to go clothes shopping with his wife. This way the wife can get immediate feedback and approval on these material investments. Once the clothes is purchased the mold is set on what she will be wearing for some time to come.
In addition, there will be times that she will be stared at disaprovingly. Just tell her that they're jealous of her beauty (not her see-thru dress). Other men may stare at her with desire. Just say they are jealous of you. Alway support her and reinforce that her style that she has developed over many years, need not be changed... for she is perfection in grace in her own native skin.

Thank you! Russian women do seem ideal! I don't necesserily want her to wear revealing outfits just feminine ones. I hate women in Jeans, I seem to be the only one who does.

Do you remember the show "Leave it to Beaver?" Mrs. Cleaver would always be wearing a dress... even at home. Well, many RW are the same way. They do wear house dresses. Perhaps not as flashy as what they wear in public, something more comfortable but still very easy on the eyes.
