Moscow has 4 airports (Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedova (DME), Bykovo (BKA) & Vnukova (VKO)). They are roughly located in the four outer corners of Moscow:

Only Sheremetyevo, Domodedova and Vnukova are international airports.
Not long ago it used to be that the bulk of Western international travel went through Shermetyevo airport which is on the Northwest outskirts of Moscow. Due to a flood of increased Western travel to and from Moscow, half the well know carriers have moved their home to Domodedova airport that is on the Southeast outskirts of Moscow.
Choose your airline wisely since these two international airports are about a 43 miles apart as the crow flies. To make matters worse they are planted on opposite ends of Moscow. This means that, depending on weather and traffic conditions, it will take from 1 to 3 hours to traverse this distance by car. Heaven forbid that your taxi driver would take a 'short-cut' through grid-locked downtown Moscow during the rush hours. You can save time and money by picking the right airline.
Also, if you are stopping in Moscow to connect to another international flight, it is 50/50 that you may have to transfer to the other airport. Verify this. If this is indeed the case and you don't have a Russian visa you will need a Russian transit visa as well. Often time, trouble and money can be greatly reduced by choosing the right carrier/airport.
The most common Western carriers at Sheremetyevo (SVO) are:
Aeroflot
Air France
Delta
KLM
