Cameras to bring…
When traveling to Russia, definitely bring a camera. Not your large format or expensive SLR unless you plan on taking it everywhere you go. An average camera will do whether it is film or digital. Film processing shops are all over in Russia. Their prices for film and services are cheaper than in the States. Digital print processing is not so popular. Besides, it is perhaps not so wise to leave your $100+ memory card in the hands of any shop. Best to take enough memory to last your visit.
While you’re there, don’t forget to take many pictures of the wonderful sights you will see in Russia. Also, don’t forget to take a lot of pictures of you and your potential fiancée (for details, see RussianWomanPrimer: K-1 Checklist). This is a must. You need a few pictures of the both of you together as proof that you both had met in person. This is a requirement for the Fiance Visa Petition. I have known of several WM that didn’t have one picture of them together and were hard pressed to prove that they ever met.
Sure, your camera will peg you as a tourist so keep it out of sight until you need it.
Most of all, have fun and relax. This will always make for good photos.
