Special Russian Woman’s ‘Name Days’
These special days are called ‘name days’ or ‘angel days.’ For RW, names of importance are first names. The church memorializes these names and associated dates for their martyrs. Some RW names can have several special dates attached to them since their can be many martyrs that have the same first name. Typically, the date that is closest to the birthday of the RW is selected as that RW’s ‘name day.’ Still, for purposes of wooing a RW any or all ‘name day’ dates are perhaps just as good to celebrate.
If a RW has a non-church name, one of several church names that are closest to her birthday will be given to her. The decision on which name is given is dependent on the church and parents.
Though these are actually church related calibrations, it doesn’t’ stop Russians to take note of a cause to have a party. Recognizing your RWs ‘name day’ will get you extra points
