Russian Women and their Signatures

RW are very careful with their signatures.  It stands to reason that in an environment where things often go wrong, one doesn’t want to be holding the bag.  What is worse is to have one’s signature on that bag.  In that situation there is no chance of dodging the proverbial bullet.  So RW have become very discriminating when it comes time to sign on the dotted line.

When they arrive in your homeland (a foreign land to RW).  It would stand to reason that they would be doubly careful.  And, indeed they are, so don’t be surprised if they refuse to sign anything unless they are fluent in your language.  This may go for things that are to their benefit, such as marriage application, SSN, wills, checking accounts, transfers of ownership and the like.  To a RW, they could be signing over their first-born child for all they know.

In Russia, they may have signed many documents to get the visa, however that was in her homeland where she had trusted friends, translators and interpreters to call on. She had the time on her side to do this as well.

When it comes time for your RW to sign something in your homeland, have her consult some friends about it or go so far as to provide an interpreter to explain the document so there will be no fears and all will be well.

Signatures and signing stuff, just seems to fit right in with today's events.

After nearly 6 weeks of waiting since the delivery of my Petition package in Dallas, my check has been cashed.  Wow!   So now our clock is ticking, but we haven't received the NOA1 yet.  So, I got the Case Number off the back of the check, and passed the number along to Natalia.  Had to explain how I got the number without getting the notice yet.  Explained it's printed on the back of the check when the check was endorsed. That brought up explaining what checks were! Trying to explain "checks", then explain "online images", and then during that conversation, "canceled checks" came up, had to explain what those were, and my Sweetheart then tells me she still does not understand, and wants to know if she will have to use checks.

We've reached a point in our relationship that it is very easy and non-intimidating to tell each other "I do not understand" and we can table that conversation for a while, and come back to it and work through it.  We aren't as 'tight' as we were initially, and now laugh, and giggle a lot during those "explanation" conversations.  We're having fun!!

DWFunk,

Yes, as you have already found out... one answers provokes more questions.  In the beginning, I adhered to the "KISS" principle so as not to have too many questions.  The idea is that more questions can potentially lead to more miscommunications.  This in turn can lead to mis-trust.

Currently, my wife writes all the checks.  Some have told me that this is not a good thing to do, however I believe otherwise.  There is no better way for a RW to come up to speed on American finances.
