RW and the American Diet…

RW either love the American diet or hate it.  If your RW loves it, you may have a growing problem in the near future.  RW are like bonsai trees. They are lean, thin and strong because the Russian environment stresses them constantly.  If they are brought to a nurturing environment too quickly, they may not be able to adjust accordingly.  RW are used to change within certain limits.  Going from an atmosphere of meeting needs to attaining wants is a bit too radical for many RW.  They may need help in structuring constraints to slow the transition; otherwise they will be like kids in a candy store and will not know when to stop.  This is particularly true if the WM is not a good example to follow or has difficulty in saying “no” to his wife.  Consequently, either the WM or RW adapts to the other in form.

The other case is not without risks either.  If the RW hates the American diet, then she will eat in the manner that she is accustom to, a Russian diet.  The problem with this is that most Russian diets are laden with fats and oils.  This is fine fuel if one continually works it off, however this is often not the case when the typical RW marries a WM.  To offset this, the RW has to have an exercise regime that she sticks to.  A possibility is getting her a membership to a local gym or setup an exercise room if you don’t already have one.

For those that have RW that seem to defy the laws of caloric intake, count your blessings… for now.  RW don’t become babushkas overnight.  Eventually, the calories will start to stick somewhere.  It is best to ease in a plan to reducing the fats and oils so that the future will continue to show kindly on you and her.
