To note, the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (IMBRA) of 2006 is currently impacting visa processing as of May 16th 2006.  Everyone can expect delays and additional read tape in getting visas for RW and UW.  Everyone hang tight, it maybe a bumpy ride.  An example is this quote from the American Embassy in Moscow:

Attention: "The International Marriage Broker Regulation became law in January 2006 establishing a deadline for DHS to begin asking petitioners of K-1 Fiancee Visas for additional information. Approximately 1100 petitions filed after the March 5, 2006 deadline were approved in error and sent through the National Visa Center (NVC) to 95 Immigrant Visa issuing posts worldwide. American Embassy Moscow has been instructed to return its invalid cases to the NVC. Petitioners and beneficiaries should direct all inquiries to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services at the following number: 800-375-5283 or contact the Service Center where the petition was filed."

Heads up!

The K- 1 Fiance Visa Petition had been revised as of 6-23-2006.  New instructions include information for compilance to IMBRA.  In a nut shell, the petition now requires any documents concerning felonous acts and reported acts of violence.  Before, it was almost a certainty that petitions would be approved, eventually... now it is uncertain.

The instructions include information that the USCIS is charged with creating a database for tracking US citizens for submissions of multiple K-1s.

So, for the hoard of American slave trades that are paying thousand of dollars to have a new RW slave every 18 months, be forwarned... we are on to you!;)

Well, there is bad news on the IMBRA front.  The only suit challenging its constitutionality has been thrown out.  This is an excerpt from Wikipedia under 'mail-order brides':

On March 26, 2007, U.S. District Judge Clarence Cooper dismissed, with prejudice, the suit for injunctive relief filed by European Connections, agreeing with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and TJC that IMBRA is a constitutional exercise of Congressional authority to regulate the international mail order bride industry.
